In this quietly powerful tale of nature, innocence, and moral courage, acclaimed American author Sarah Orne Jewett invites listeners into the still, sun-dappled woods of rural New England—where a young girl faces a choice that will define her soul.
Nine-year-old Sylvia, once a timid city child, has found deep peace and belonging in the solitude of the countryside, where the birds and trees have become her truest companions. When a charming stranger arrives—an eager young ornithologist offering a reward for help locating a rare white heron—Sylvia is torn between pleasing him and protecting the wild creature she reveres.
Poetic and emotionally rich, A White Heron is a meditation on the beauty of the natural world and the quiet strength of a child’s heart. Narrated with grace and sensitivity by Tony J. Martin, this timeless short story reminds us that even the smallest voices can carry the weight of profound truth.
