The Ninth Birthday Wish
The story takes place in a tropical vacation getaway land home to a legendary magical pond. The plot focuses on fraternal twins, Bril and Arisa. Bril is a quiet dreamer who loves reading and building skyscrapers in the sandbox, while Arisa is a bold, action-oriented girl who craves wild adventures. On their ninth birthday, the family visits the magical pond where birthday wishes are granted. As the older twin, Bril is supposed to wish first. However, an impatient Arisa blurts her wish out of turn. Their birthday wishes are accidentally mixed up and reversed. The quiet Bril is dropped into an action-packed pirate adventure, while the thrill-seeking Arisa gets sent to a peaceful world of sand and quiet beaches. By living out each other's desires, the twins explore the complexities of sibling relationships, learn to appreciate their differences, and discover new things about themselves.
The book is most appropriate for young readers in grades K-3 (ages 5 to 9). It features vibrant, movement-filled full-color illustrations by Florence Jayne, with a heavy focus on lively beach and pirate scenes.
