“An extraordinary suspense novel…an architecturally perfect plot…full-bodied characterization, subtle psychological exploration, vivid evocation of locale一with strict technical whodunit tricks as dazzling as anything ever brought off by Carr, Rawson, Queen, or Christie.”

    Engaging beginning to end

A Kiss Before Dying – Ira Levin 0read by George Newbern – If a clever title sways you, you won’t feel cheated as this book not only has a clever title, but an engrossing story to tell. As narrated by George Newbern, the odd premise comes alive. “A false-hearted lover is worse than a theif. For a thief will just rob you and take what you have. But a false-hearted lover will lead you to the grave.” So, take a sociopath, connect him to a willing woman, get her pregnant and then decide there’s no benefit for him so let’s murder the woman. Well, sounds simple but the complexities unwind with a fascination for anyone inclined to enjoy reading about what begins as an easily understood plot, only to get twisty and oh, so enjoyable. Newbern’s reading is spot on and does the book justice.
