Awesome
Carry On is a book about a ‘chosen one’ in a magical society trying to beat the big bad. Much like Harry Potter, its protagonist, Simon Snow, is simply trying to survive in a society that refuses to accept him and yet considers him their savior. It’s his destiny to beat the evil that is plaguing them, but he doesn’t know how or even what he’s up against. The book is a companion to the author’s other book, Fangirl. If you liked Harry Potter, you’ll see the similarities (and the differences) and hopefully like this one, too. The characters are realistic and relatable, you can’t help but hope there’s a romance, and you won’t be disappointed. I like the way LGBTQI characters are written in this book - namely, that they’re no different from straight characters, and like most teens, are just figuring out some things about relationships and sex. Personally, I think this is a great read for teens and young adults of all backgrounds, but especially for those who need more LGBTQI role-models. I think this would be a great addition to any YA collection, especially those looking for diverse characters to which teens can relate.
