“Joe Hill once again hits a home run with this collection of four novellas, each more chilling than the last. He has a lot of help from the superstar narrators who perform the works flawlessly. Special acclaim goes to Wil Wheaton for his performance of ‘Snapshot,’ which features a villain who wields a Polaroid camera that erases memory. The most fascinating thing about the story is that the bad guy is eliminated halfway through, but the rest of the story is equally fascinating. Dennis Boutsikaris, with a street-tough delivery, handles the chores of ‘Aloft,’ a peculiar story about novice parachutists who land on a semisolid cloud instead of bulleting to Earth. Boutsikaris creates audio images of a scary fantasy reminiscent of The Twilight Zone. Stephen Lang’s reading of ‘Loaded,’ about a mall security guard who is thrust into the media spotlight of gun rights, is also a standout. Kate Mulgrew’s performance of ‘Rain’ tops off a collection well worth hearing.”

A collection of four chilling novels, ingeniously wrought gems of terror from the brilliantly imaginative, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Fireman, Joe Hill.

""One of America's finest horror writers"" (Time magazine), Joe Hill has been hailed among legendary talents such as Peter Straub, Neil Gaiman, and Jonathan Letham. In Strange Weather, this ""compelling chronicler of human nature's continual war between good and evil,"" (Providence Journal-Bulletin) who ""pushes genre conventions to new extremes"" (New York Times Book Review) deftly expose the darkness that lies just beneath the surface of everyday life.

""Snapshot,"" performed by Wil Wheaton, is the disturbing story of a Silicon Valley adolescent who finds himself threatened by ""The Phoenician,"" a tattooed thug who possesses a Polaroid Instant Camera that erases memories, snap by snap.

A young man takes to the skies to experience his first parachute jump… and winds up a castaway on an impossibly solid cloud, a Prospero's island of roiling vapor that seems animated by a mind of its own in ""Aloft,"" performed by Dennis Boutsikaris.

On a seemingly ordinary day in Boulder, Colorado, the clouds open up in a downpour of nails—splinters of bright crystal that shred the skin of anyone not safely under cover. ""Rain,"" performed by Kate Mulgrew, explores this escalating apocalyptic event, as the deluge of nails spreads out across the country and around the world.

In ""Loaded,"" performed by Stephen Lang, a mall security guard in a coastal Florida town courageously stops a mass shooting and becomes a hero to the modern gun rights movement. But under the glare of the spotlights, his story begins to unravel, taking his sanity with it. When an out-of-control summer blaze approaches the town, he will reach for the gun again and embark on one last day of reckoning.

With an afterword from Joe Hill, read by the author.

Masterfully exploring classic literary themes through the prism of the supernatural, Strange Weather is a stellar collection from an artist who is ""quite simply the best horror writer of our generation"" (Michael Kortya).

    Solid Book

This was a really well-written book, but I think I will address each novella individually. 1 - Snapshot - a solid story with a satisfactory ending. I enjoyed the ride and the mysterious camera. Reminded me of his father with this story. **** 2 - Loaded - I really liked this story. I was engaged all the way, attentively tuned in waiting to see what would happen next. Easily a 5 star story. Until the end, or rather the lack of an ending. I was so mad at the ending, that I had to put the book down, unable to start reading again until the next day. I'm still not happy about that. **** 3 - Aloft - Started and ended well, but the whole middle, to me, was not good. I was not entertained at all, and was quite bored with it, eager for it to end. This one did not do it for me. * 4 - Rain - I wanted to like this more than I actually did. But it was a bit too much out there. Not the "rain" part, but other things going on in the story. I did like the main character a lot. *** Overall, a solid book. Rating could have been much higher if Aloft wasn't in there, and if there was an actual ending to Loaded. I've seen many reviews where people really liked Aloft. I'm just not one of them. Can't wait for the next Joe Hill book!
