Dark Fantasy at it's finest
This is one of the first Fantasy books I've partaken of where the main character is pretty much Evil. Even though the world Mark Lawrence portrays in no Sunday picnic, the Protagonist in this tale is ruthless to the core. To say it was engrossing would be an understatement. I was concerned at first about the feats that were being attributed to such a young character. However Mr. Lawrence avoids the pitfalls of other Fantasy writers. He acknowledges the unlikely hood of events and even has the character, performing remarkable feats, take time to contemplate the pure luck of some of his encounters. There are plenty of plot points that will keep me into this series, many of which were surprising. The next two books in the series portray the main character when he's older and wiser and I look forward to his fortune to being honed from lucky to just damn skilled. I burnt through this book in one sitting. Highly recommend to Fantasy Fans, especially if you enjoyed 'The Book of the New Sun' Series by Gene Wolfe as this is the more gritty, action packed version.
