The Cask of Amontillado

Fortunato thinks he's being invited to taste a rare wine. Montresor already knows how the evening will end.

During the festivities of carnival, Montresor lures Fortunato away from the crowds and into the depths of his family's catacombs. His weapon isn't a blade or a gun, but his victim's own pride, curiosity, and desire for a taste of Amontillado.

What begins as an apparently harmless invitation becomes a calculated act of revenge. Beneath the streets, surrounded by cold stone and ancient family vaults, Fortunato finds himself trapped in a nightmare from which there is no escape.

Edgar Allan Poe's *The Cask of Amontillado* is a chilling classic of gothic fiction, psychological horror, deception, and revenge. Its increasingly claustrophobic setting and unsettling narrator build toward one of literature's most disturbing acts of vengeance.

This Modern English Edition updates Poe's language for clear, natural listening while preserving the original story's events, atmosphere, and meaning as faithfully as possible.

Human-narrated by Luke Meinier Dalofin—not synthetic AI voice narration—this edition also includes a detailed companion at the end, offering further discussion of the story's symbolism, dramatic irony, themes of revenge, and disturbing conclusion.

For listeners who enjoy gothic horror, psychological suspense, classic literature, and stories of calculated revenge.
