Tarquin of Cheapside

Moonlit alleys. Clashing steel. A fugitive with quick wits and quicker feet tears through Elizabethan London, crashing into the candlelit refuge of a book-besotted scholar. As two furious gallants close in, the night sharpens into a duel of nerve, word, and will—until a gray dawn, a quill, and a few charged lines reveal a sly, history-tinged twist. In this early historical gem, F. Scott Fitzgerald folds chase-thriller momentum into sly humor and literary intrigue, conjuring Cheapside's fog, watchmen, and whispering taverns with cinematic clarity. Narrator Marcus Locke delivers a vivid, character-rich performance—swaggering pursuers, sardonic fugitive, weary watch, and the murmured cadences of a reader lost in Spenser—bringing every echoing footfall and breathless pause to life. A taut, one-sitting listen for fans of Shakespearean-era intrigue, classic short stories, and elegant surprises.
