Ben-Hur

Lew Wallace's Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ is a sweeping historical novel of betrayal, revenge, faith, and redemption set in the ancient world. Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince in Roman-occupied Judea, sees his life shattered when a childhood acquaintance, Messala, rises to power within the Roman Empire. Falsely accused of attempting to harm the Roman governor, Judah is condemned to slavery, separated from his family, and stripped of his former life.

Determined to survive and one day reclaim what was taken from him, Judah endures years of hardship before an unexpected act of courage changes the course of his fate. His journey eventually brings him back to Judea, where he becomes a celebrated charioteer and seeks justice against those who betrayed him.

Woven throughout Judah's story is the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. As Judah encounters the teachings, compassion, and sacrifice of Christ, his desire for vengeance gradually gives way to a deeper understanding of faith, mercy, and forgiveness.
