Frank is sailing in the Caribbean when his boat suddenly begins taking on water. He makes it to a small island, hoping to find help.

He finds unusual people who are friendly in their way—but who know things about him and his boat that they have no way of knowing.

They tell Frank they can help. They offer him food, a place to sleep, and everything he needs. But getting answers to his questions proves more difficult.

Frank wants only to get his boat back on the water and his freedom. The longer he stays, however, the less control he has over where he is, who he is, and what these people intend to do with him.

Almost Free is a short story about freedom, control, and one man's determination to be who he is.
