House of String takes an autobiographical look at childhood before television, Internet and Smart phones. It describes inventive games such as billycart escapades, creating a backyard circus and covering bedrooms in a network of elasticised string. It embraces the sense of freedom where nobody looked at the clock during weekends other than to return home from the parks and streets in time for lunch and dinner. It is told in a humourous style with particular references to life in Heidelberg, Melbourne, Australia in the 1950s and early 1960s.
