A Book For Jerry

Eight-year-old Jerry wants only one thing for Christmas: a book of his very own.

He loves learning to read, but every book he opens belongs to his school. At home, money is scarce, and even necessities are difficult to afford. Still, Jerry dreams of the perfect volume-large enough to carry beneath his arm, small enough to hide beneath his pillow, and filled with colorful adventures featuring pirates, dragons, soldiers, explorers, and wild animals.

There is just one unusual condition: Jerry insists that his book contain no girls.

When his letter reaches Santa Claus, Benjamin Bookfellow and the North Country's storytellers face an impossible assignment. Every worthwhile tale seems to need a girl somewhere in its pages.
