In June 2025, as a newly grieving widow, Elisa Schetrompf traveled to Israel to participate in a pilgrimage in honor of her late husband. Arriving a week early to reconnect with family she hadn't seen in over twenty years, her journey of remembrance was suddenly upended when war broke out just two days later. Stranded indefinitely and facing a medical crisis-an urgent need for retina injections to save her sight-she found herself living between the walls of bomb shelters and safe rooms. Yet, amidst the chaos, she began to uncover the deep roots of her Indian-Jewish heritage. Through the strength and courage of her family and the Israeli people, her grief was transformed.
