The Ramayana of Sage Valmiki is well known. It consists of seven parts known as the Kandas and is in the form of verses in Sanskrit language. They are the Bala Kandam, Ayodhya Kandam, Aranya Kandam, Kishkindha Kandam, Sundara Kandam, Yuddha Kandam and the Uttara Kandam.

Of these, the Sundara Kandam is considered to be the most auspicious for the reason that it was in this Kanda that Lord Hanuman meets Devi Sita in Lanka and offers the signet ring of Lord Rama creating a sense of hope and optimism. It represents a spiritual journey from despair to hope.

Reciting Sundara Kandam is considered as a source of strength, designed to relieve sorrow and bring positive outcomes. Hence, it is frequently read by many people during tough times. It is the tradition in many families to recite at least a few verses of the Sundara Kandam often or at least on certain important occasions. The verses of the Sundara Kandam spread across 68 cantos known as the Sargas.

In this audio book, the recitation of all the verses from Cantos 1 to 5 of the Sundara Kandam have been presented by the narrator. It is hoped that it will be of help to many who want to recite or hear the verses of the Sundara Kandam.
