Step into the unforgiving landscape of the Second Boer War with Richard Dehan's sweeping historical epic, 'The Dop Doctor'. Once a brilliant and respected London physician, Dr. Owen Saxham has fallen into disgrace and severe alcoholism, wandering the dusty plains of South Africa as a broken man. Known only as the 'dop doctor' by the locals, his life seems destined for ruin. But when the brutal Siege of Mafeking erupts, Saxham is thrust onto the bloody frontlines. Surrounded by artillery fire, disease, and desperate civilians, he must conquer his inner demons to save those who fiercely depend on him. Along the way, an unexpected romance with the resilient Lynette offers a fragile glimmer of hope. Gripping, atmospheric, and emotionally charged, this classic audiobook is a masterful tale of trauma, courage, and ultimate redemption. Will the fires of war completely destroy the fallen doctor, or forge him anew?
