The New Accelerator

Professor Gibberne's drug makes the world crawl. Wells's New Accelerator is a walk through frozen streets, a scientific joke with bruised shins. Speed as a toy, then as a danger. The future in a bottle, one afternoon long. Hats, traffic, a world stuck like amber. The drug wears off; the joke remains: what if speed were a private luxury? Wells in a light suit, already thinking like a century later. Gibberne's bottle, a street stuck like amber, speed as a private luxury with bruised shins. Read in English, unabridged.
