Virgin Soil

Young Russia goes to the people and finds the people are not a speech. Hear Turgenev's Virgin Soil unabridged in English: idealism in the provinces, love, conspiracy, the gap between pamphlet and hut. Nezhdanov and a countryside plot; a printing-press that cannot plough. A generation trying to cut a future and cutting itself. Listen to revolution as a feeling that dies in the weather. Turgenev's last long look, spoken without a banner. Love that cannot wait for the future, and a class that will not be a chorus.
