"Ivanhoe" is a historical novel by the Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott, first published in 1820. Set in the 12th-century England during the reign of Richard the Lionheart, the narrative follows the adventures of its titular character, Wilfred of Ivanhoe, a nobleman disowned by his father for his allegiance to the king. Themes of chivalry, romance, and conflict between the Saxons and Normans pervade the novel. Scott's vivid depiction of medieval society, combined with his intricate characters like Rebecca, Rowena, and the antagonistic Templar Brian de Bois-Guilbert, made "Ivanhoe" one of his most celebrated works.
