“A brilliant conjuring act by one of the master illusionists of our time.”

Wired

In 1878, two young stage magicians clash in the dark during the course of a fraudulent séance. From this moment on, their lives become webs of deceit and revelation as they vie to outwit and expose each other.

Their rivalry will take them to the peaks of their careers—but with terrible consequences. In the course of pursuing each other’s ruin, they will deploy all the deception their magician’s craft can command, the highest misdirection and the darkest science. Blood will be spilled, but it will not be enough. In the end, their legacy will pass on for generations to descendants who must, for their sanity’s sake, untangle their puzzle.

    A great GREAT audio book!

I do admit that I saw (and enjoyed) the filmed version of this first and I also admit I was given a copy of the audio book in anticipation of a cross country car trip (don't judge me!). This is truly a wonderful audio book and Simon Vance clearly enjoyed the narration. After a little research he admits that it is in fact one of his favorite audio books that he has ever worked on. It clearly shows in this beautiful performance. Even if you hated the film (I don't know anyone that did) you'll still LOVE this audio book!

    Better than the movie.

I did not know this was a book first. The movie is one of my favorites. When I started the book it was so different than the movie. The character development and their history was so much more . I wish the movie would have followed the book more.
