Passing

Nella Larsen's Passing is a powerful novel of identity, race, friendship, and social expectations in 1920s Harlem. Irene Redfield leads a comfortable life within the Black middle class, but her world is unsettled when she unexpectedly encounters Clare Kendry, a childhood acquaintance who is living as a white woman.
