Three women. Three crossings. One unbroken line of light.

Something is waking up, and it finds her in the ruins of an ancient city, through a scarab that comes to her unbidden, carrying a message she isn't ready to hear. An impulsive detour in Mexico draws Claire into a Toltec lineage older than memory, and then across sacred sites on three continents toward a mission she never sought: restore a channel of light between the earth and the sun before a solar eclipse closes the window forever.

Someone else wants that channel, and he has been hunting Claire far longer than she knows.

Half a world away, her daughter Valerie is making her own crossing, drawn to India by forces she cannot name, into a spiritual endeavor that mirrors her mother's in ways neither can yet see. And Claire's mother Elena is quietly completing a mission she has carried in secret for a lifetime.
