Completed in 1975, this novel revolves around Egyptian folklore and religion, using the historical backdrop of modern Egypt as its foundation. Set against the backdrop of rural areas in southern Egypt rich in ancient pharaonic ruins, the story follows the complex fates of three generations of women—grandmother, mother, and daughter—to depict the realities of rural life in modern Egyptian society. The tragic fates of these three generations of women, along with the deeply ingrained feudalistic views of rural Egyptian society towards women, acted like invisible shackles, binding them. Their aspirations for a better life and their longing for love were as precious and beautiful as a bracelet, something every girl cherishes, yet such beauty and preciousness often came at the cost of their lives.
