This book tells the story of Nadia, a seventeen-year-old Gulf girl, who is forced by her father to marry a businessman in his sixties. After the marriage, she is frequently subjected to humiliation, abuse, and imprisonment by her husband, leading an extremely miserable life. After the old man's death, Nadia inherits a large sum of money, allowing her to continue pursuing her dream of attending university, which had been interrupted by her marriage. However, the free world outside the "palace" is not what she imagined. Despairing and heartbroken, Nadia returns to her family, pinning her hopes on a male servant, but this pursuit of a future and love is once again thwarted. The book touches upon some very sensitive topics in Arab Islamic society. Through its depiction of Arab patriarchal society and its examination of women's own shortcomings, it reveals the collective silence, powerlessness, and physical subjugation of Arab women in this society. It reflects the author's desire to challenge the patriarchal values of Arab society and awaken women and society as a whole.
