The Wapsipinicon River doesn't just flow through Eastern Iowa; it bleeds into the choked, decaying timber lining its banks. And from that rot, something has always been watching.

For generations, locals have locked their windows and traded hushed warnings of a shape stalking the tree line. It leaves deep, impossible footprints in the shoreline muck, gliding through suffocating river fog without a sound. They call it Wapsi Willie.

As a boy, the author was haunted by things along those muddy banks he could never explain, frozen, breathless moments that lingered long after sunrise. Back then, it was easy to blame childhood terror and the paranoid warnings of neighbors who knew exactly what aberration glided through the midnight brush. It was a towering weight that should have been splintering wood, yet moved with an impossible silence.

Life eventually dragged him away, turning years into decades of real-world survival. But when he finally returned as an adult, the Wapsipinicon was still waiting. And so was the presence. Trying to bring logic to the water's edge to conquer old nightmares, a primitive dread crawled right back under his skin. The river hadn't forgotten him.

Now, as the line between past and present unravels, the author must confront a sickening reality: Wapsi Willie is no harmless bedtime story. It is an extension of the land itself, born from ancient soil and birthed by shadows. Whether this entity is made of cold flesh and blood, or something far older and terrifyingly patient… is a truth you'll have to survive for yourself.
