黒い巾着 The Black Drawstring Pouch

A wealthy moneylender named Kanbei dies under suspicious circumstances at the Yamazaki household.

Soon afterward, five thousand ryō—an enormous fortune believed to have been hidden in his private quarters—vanishes without a trace. Then Kanbei's ten-year-old grandson is attacked, leaving behind two mysterious final clues:

"Grandfather's pouch."

"The sixty-third bad fortune."

The missing object is a black silk drawstring pouch embroidered with the family crest. Could it contain the secret of the hidden fortune?

高利貸しとして財を築き、多くの人々から恨まれていた山崎屋の隠居・勘兵衛が、不審な死を遂げた。
