The Naval Treaty
A letter arrives at Baker Street from a man Watson has not seen since their school days. Percy Phelps was the brilliant boy then, the one everyone expected to rise. He has risen — to the Foreign Office, and to a nine-week brain fever from which he has only just surfaced.
The night it happened he was working late, copying a secret treaty between England and Italy. He stepped out for coffee. He was gone ten minutes. When he came back the pages were gone, and with them his career, his engagement, and very nearly his mind.
The commissionaire saw no one on the stairs. The side door was bolted. The bell in the room had rung, and no one can say who rang it. The document has not surfaced in any European capital since — which means it is still in England, and still waiting.
Holmes takes the case at its coldest, ten weeks after the trail has gone. What follows is one of the quietest investigations in the canon, and one of the most patient: a long night's watch, and a breakfast at Baker Street that readers have remembered for over a century.
Told in Watson's voice, shaped for the listening ear.
Narrated in Korean.
