He Had It Coming

Frances discovers her husband, Dom Langone, dead in the kitchen, a bullet in his skull. She is pleased except for the mess. Glee and a large inheritance propel Frances into prime suspect status. Dom's colleague threatens Frances, implying he can implicate her in her husband's murder unless she provides him with sensitive corporate information stolen by Dom. Frances and her two best friends embark on a ridiculous private investigation, only to stumble upon a motive for someone other than Frances to kill Dom.

Rampant lying and general relief at Dom's demise hamper the police inquiry. Pairing a rookie cop on his first case with a seasoned detective percolates interpersonal and intergenerational conflicts. The young officer's reliance on knowledge garnered from a herd of ex-girlfriends doesn't help.

The case involves a complex web of duplicity, money laundering, drug trafficking, and a bank in the Grand Cayman Islands. The book is packed with characters who are either hopelessly inept or lead eccentric lives, or both.
