A moving Edo-period human drama by Shugoro Yamamoto.
Only three days after the wedding, Osugi, the daughter of a tofu shop, runs away with money and valuables from her family home. Left behind is Tsukaji, her newly adopted husband, who must face a sick father-in-law, a fragile mother-in-law, and a household on the verge of collapse.
Mocked, humiliated, and even threatened by violence, Tsukaji refuses to abandon the shop. Through hardship, patience, and quiet devotion, he begins to understand not only how to make good tofu, but how to truly sell it to the people of Edo.
His new sales cry, "Konchi Uma no Hi," becomes more than a business idea. It is the quiet voice of a wounded man choosing to begin again.
