孫七とずんど / Magoshichi and Zundo

Magoshichi Kakinoki is an enormous but extraordinarily slow and easygoing samurai.

His closest friend, Zundoemon Ishihara, insists that beneath Magoshichi's vague expression lies the potential for greatness.

During his first battle, Magoshichi cannot understand the frantic rhythm of the battlefield. He decorates his armor with a flowering cherry branch and walks through the fighting in search of an opponent.

No one challenges him.

Without realizing it, he reaches the enemy castle gate. His sudden appearance causes the defenders to believe the fortress has already been penetrated, inspiring the Tokugawa forces to charge and capture the castle.

Magoshichi becomes a celebrated hero—even though he believes he merely walked too far.
