A year ago in Costa Rica, Josie met a woman who kissed like lightning and vanished like rain. Peyton was supposed to be a memory: one reckless night, one name, and a ache Josie could never quite explain.

Then wildfire sweeps through Morro Bay, pulling firefighters from neighboring stations into the same smoke-choked emergency. Josie looks across the chaos and finds Peyton standing there in turnout gear, no longer a dream, and no longer easy to forget.
