In 1978, in a classified KGB laboratory, "Svetlyachok" was born-a gas that leaves no trace, save for sudden cardiac arrest. In 1991, as a great empire collapsed, a single batch of this poison vanished, settling in an ordinary apartment.

For the Serebryakovs, these ampules became a cursed treasure. By guarding another man's secret, they were pulled into the gears of a changing world: from the bloody turf wars of the nineties to the cynical power plays of the aughts. But a trail of blood follows every ampule-from the theater halls of "Nord-Ost" to the stadiums of Grozny.
